e-bike Battery Fatal Fire in Coventry: The Story of Natasha and Karlo

A tragic fire in Coventry, caused by an e-bike battery, claimed the lives of a young couple and their two dogs. The fire was described as the worst in 21 years by a responding firefighter. Their families, alongside West Midlands Fire Service (WMFS), shared their story in a powerful video to raise awareness of the dangers of lithium-ion batteries.

​Accidental Fire Caused by E-Bike Battery

  • HM Coroner has ruled the deaths of Natasha and Karlo as accidental.

  • The fire, which broke out in November, was caused by an e-bike battery igniting.

  • The intense blaze also claimed the lives of their beloved dogs, Tyagi and Medusa.


Firefighter’s Testimony

  • Binley firefighter Dell Haughton, who responded to the incident, described it as the most severe fire he has witnessed in 21 years.

 

Families’ Call for Awareness

  • Natasha and Karlo’s grieving families are working with West Midlands Fire Service (WMFS) to raise awareness of e-bike fire risks.

  • A video has been produced to highlight the dangers of lithium-ion batteries.

 

A Sister’s Plea

Natasha’s sister, Ehsia, shared an emotional message:

"The world has lost a truly precious person—uniquely thoughtful and beautiful in every way. I’ll never be the same, and I’ll never look at life the same."
 

She urges the public:

"Unless you can afford to purchase an e-bike that has undergone rigorous testing and safety checks, do not buy one."
